Celebrating our 33rd year of publication • Visit us online at WORLD FENCE NEWS April 2017 AMICO Security of Birmingham, Ala. recently completed training with Steelco Fence of Needham Heights, Mass. to install the newly-released Amiguard™ Perimeter System. The fence system secures a Spectra Ener- gy natural gas pipeline metering sta- tion which is located in West Roxbury, Mass., a suburb of Boston. The metering station is part of a $3 billion natural gas pipeline that Spectra Energy is constructing be- tween New Jersey and Boston. Steelco Fence has been serving the Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire area since 1979, and was subcontracted to provide a security fence for the metering station by Bond Brothers General Contracting, which was responsible for constructing the entire metering station for Spectra Energy. Steelco had received bids from other fence systems and had settled on one of AMICO's competitors for the job, according to Gary Baltz, AMICO's director of marketing. On the day the project manager from Steelco, Gary Doig, was going to send the purchase order, he saw an ad- vertisement for the new AMICO Ami- guard perimeter system and he knew this was the system he needed to use. Steelco had done business with AMICO previously and had success with the Secura Fence system as well as their reliable service, so he reached out for information about Amiguard, said Baltz. The Secura Fence product was de- veloped by AMICO over 25 years ago and has been utilized for high security installations worldwide for a quarter of a century. The new Amiguard patent pend- ing system is the next generation high security perimeter system that pro- vides high security, aesthetics, seam- less design, ease of installation, and allows the incorporation of impact and fiber optic cables – with anti-cut anti-climb mesh options, in addition to wind load testing up to Category 5 hurricane wind speeds, Baltz noted, adding that the Amiguard system is highly versatile, allowing the incorpo- ration of many types of infill panels including ballistics. The system is also designed to accommodate many different grade changes. The full length of the fence is bolted together using "Infini-Rails," which ensures that any load or im- pact to the fence is distributed throughout the entire system – greatly enhancing its strength. While designed to be anti-climb, the Amiguard posts on this installation were topped with barb arms and three strands of barbed wire, increasing the deterrence factor. (AMICO photos) support commitments and pricing, and he immediately changed his mind and awarded the P.O. to AMICO, said Baltz. Upon receiving the purchase or- der for 770 lineal feet of 7-foot high powder coated black Amiguard with Series 6300 mesh type, AMICO pro- duced the material and shipped it to the jobsite. The system was shipped out of AMICO's Bourbonnais, Ill. dis- tribution center and arrived at the cus- tomer site on time, as promised. Once the material arrived, AMICO's chief security engineer Chris McElroy and security project manager Bryan Millican were de- ployed to Boston to train and instruct the Steelco team on how to install the Amiguard system. Shortly after, Steelco began to set posts and erect the fence. "Having previously completed other projects throughout New En- gland, including at Harvard Univer- sity, Boston Garden, and Gillette Sta- dium, the Steelco team was extremely surprised by the speed and simplicity of the installation of the Amiguard product," said Baltz. "They picked up on the concepts quickly and were very complimentary of the AMICO prod- uct. They especially liked the ease of install as well as the strength and aes- thetic look of the product. "The fence was constructed to protect the terminal, but was in a high end residential area and needed to be aesthetically pleasing," noted Baltz. "It also had to be anti-cut and anti-climb, while not being abrasive to the touch. The site saw many demonstrators and protestors throughout the construction and even had some with Go-Pro cam- eras sneak under the chain link mesh from the temporary fencing!" The fence includes two 42" pe- destrian gates. Tymetal provided a 13' double drive swing gate as well as a crash rated 20' automatic cantilever slide gate. The job was installed in October through December of 2016. "The ease of install and profes- sionalism of the Steelco installation crews made this job a tremendous suc- cess," added Baltz. One of the time-saving features of the Amiguard system is the pre-fab- ricated "Amiguard posts" where the Infini-Rail passes directly through the post, eliminating fittings and continued on page 12 Your Iron Store & So Much More!
