NAFCAS 2012 annual meeting started things off with the election of a new slate of officers for 2013: President, Mark Knudson, Modern Fence Technologies, East Troy, Wisconsin; vice-president, Scott Ruete, Frederick Fence, Frederick, Maryland; and treasurer/secretary, Dennis Pekoff, Natural Beauty and Ultimate Fence, Wantagh, New York. On Thursday, Nov. 7, fair weather and autumn landscapes provided a beautiful backdrop for a golf outing at The Georgia Club. The tournament provided much fun with several holes having added requirements. These holes had a gate that players had to hit their ball through, blocks to stand on, and blind goggles. The winning foursome consisted of Daniel Evans and Dustin Chapman of Ultra Aluminum Mfg., Inc., Mark Mayfield of Mayfield Fence, and Billy Stroud of Jerith Manufacturing Co., Inc. A series of educational seminars was held on Friday at the Holiday Inn in Athens. Topics covered were gate operator installation presented by LiftMaster; consultative selling by Ameristar Fence Products; financial tools by Ideal Aluminum; post driving by Rhino Tool Co.; business overhead by Modern Fence Technologies; and tools of the trade by NAFCA instructors. On Friday evening, a barbecue dinner was held at the Classic Center. Immediately afterward, the first NAFCAR Cup Race was held. Four unique vehicles took place in the inaugural race. The cars had to be made entirely of fence parts, with gravity providing the power. When the excitement ended, Ray Statz of Qual Line Fence took the honors as the fastest tricycle in the fence world. Other awards given were Most Original, which Chapman Fence won, and Best in Show, which Modern Fence won. A formal barbed wire cutting ceremony kicked off the Fence Expo on Saturday at the Classic Center. Thirty-seven vendors participated. Unfortunately, two other vendors were prevented from attending due to Superstorm Sandy. Several awards were presented: Snug Cottage Hardware Best Booth; Above, Ray Statz of Qual Line Fence Corp. proudly shows off the fastest tricycle in the fence industry after winning the first inaugural NAFCAR Cup Race. NAFCAs stated mission is, Bringing together fence contractors and vendors for the mutual benefit and integrity of the fence industry. Vendors and contractors have joined NAFCA from each of the organizations ten regions in the United States and Canada. The next event sponsored by NAFCA is the Fence Training School to be held in Sebring, Florida, on February 7-9, 2013.
