"It's not easy burning a car in the city. The guys and I had to travel with half a car behind us on a flatbed truck, a Jaguar, all the
way to somewhere in New Jersey. An obliging fire department agreed, on a voluntary basis, to have the car burnt on their premises. It was a
long hot drive out of New York. The firemen and -women were all assembled when we arrived. They asked me what I had in mind. I said,
'Well, I'd like it really burnt out, so you know, and can feel, exactly what happened to it at a glance.' We positioned the half car on a suitable
area of hard standing. I was expecting to douse it in petrol. But they filled it up with straw and put a match to it and the whole thing went
up. It was like The Wicker Man. Everybody was enthralled with the spectacle. Even firemen don't get to start fires." —Sarah Lucas
