BUYER'S GUIDE UTVs and Side-by-Sides: Micro pickups that really get the job done. By Larry Walton O wning a business can produce some good luck. For example, it's amazing how often mods that help your pickup perform better on the jobsite just happen to be ideal for hunting. The same may be said of your purchase of one of the newest side-by-side utility terrain vehicles (UTV). There are times when a small machine can be a big asset on the jobsite and it's just the thing for the hunt camp or around the horse barns. Haven't considered a UTV as a work tool? Many of us have seen golf-cart-like buggies on commercial projects for years, but haven't thought about the advantage of using the 4x4 versions on the unimproved surfaces of road and land development projects we work on. The advantages over a pickup are numerous. Maneuverable, light and equipped with superior 4x4 systems, these hard-working machines can go almost anywhere quickly. Towing maintenance trailers or moving supplies and people are where they shine. Supervisors can traverse quickly from one end of the site to another without trashing a pickup or getting in the way of a busy crew. Professional landscapers and contractors with home-honey-do lists can benefit by using these machines in tight quarters where full-size pickups are too wide and too heavy. Shuttling sod, carrying clippings or packing pavers, these hard-working machines can get the job done quickly and efficiently. Here are some of the newest machines available for work and play. propickupmag.com PROPICKUP 7
