The bowls, sold in India, are a big hit. KFC introduced "Scoff-ee cups" in the UK. They are baked as a wafer-like cookie with a sugar paper wrapping and lined with a heat-resistant white chocolate coating. Lavazza introduced "cookie cup" made of baked cookie dough designed to hold espresso in 2003 but discontinued the experiment. Bakey's Food in Hyderabad, India makes a selection of edible forks, cups, plates, and salad bowls from grains and millet. They have a six-month shelf life and sell for $4.20 for a box of 100 spoons. A new plant-based label, certified by NSF (National Sanitation Foundation, Interna- tional) was created to address concerns about foods that are animal-product free. Only 3% of con- sumers are vegan. Plant-based foods dis- playing a vegan seal suggest a lifestyle choice. Plant-based certification is broader and more specifically designed to promote plant-based meat, egg, and dairy re- placements. Coreshtech Biodegradable Teabags Korean-based Coreshtech Co. produces a range of industrial mesh products including biodegradable teabag and coffee filter material as well as machines used to form, fill, seal, and pack tea. "Coreshtech practices green business, demon- strating concern for the health of customers drinking tea," according to the company, which uses PLA (plant-based) plastics in the manufacture of its pyramid shaped ultrasonic-sealable teabags. Founded in 2005, the factory in Daegu produces "a transparent 3D pyramid that can be distinguished by the luxurious appearance of the tea enclosed." In its online literature the company states that constant technological innovation has led to highly permeable mesh that results in "deeper and richer taste and scent than existing tea bags. Materials comply with US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards; Germany's LFGB [German Food & Commodities Law] safe material standards and are certified by KAFRI, the [Korean Advanced Food Research Institute] as completely safe." "The PLA mesh consists of 100% natural fibers so when it is buried under the ground it can become biodegradable within one year," according to the company. Learn more: www.coresh.com
