14 • JUNE 2019 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Keep Up With The Misadventures Of Pete, Jake & Luckey Each Month in World Fence News! Zaun HiSec fencing secures Canadian psychiatric hospital A psychiatric hospital in Vancou- ver, Canada has been upgraded with British security fencing without im- pinging on the ongoing operation of the facility. British Columbia fencing install- er Streamline Fencing Ltd installed a total of 300m of British steel mesh manufacturer Zaun Ltd's HiSec 358 fencing to secure the 190-bed Colony Farms Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Vancouver. The company worked success- fully alongside customized facilities manager BGIS and British Columbia Mental Health Services (BCMHS) to navigate around out of bounds areas during certain periods. The hospital treats and rehabil- itates people who have crossed the law but are deemed unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible due to mental illness. In doing so, Streamline Fencing Ltd has created a safe and secure hos- pital that is aesthetically pleasing to the patients and staff within and to the community beyond with anti-climb fencing that provides full through-vis- ibility. This is the first time a HiSec 358 style secure mesh fence has been used in Vancouver, which also facilitated bespoke installation in areas of the hospital. The fencing was 4m high and incorporated barbed wire topping to provide additional security along with special clamp bars and fixings. It is the first time Zaun fencing has been used in Canada. BCMHS are so pleased with the result that they are looking at using a similar product on another hospital on Vancouver Island – while Streamline are in discussions to become the ac- credited distributor for Zaun in North America, Zaun noted. Streamline's Phil Murphy said: "Zaun's professional approach to the project was outstanding. They had an amazing choice of products for the ap- plication. "The details in the specifications and drawings answered all the ques- tions that our client had in relation to the product and its installation," he added. Streamline owns and operates its own fleet of vehicles, machinery and equipment, while experienced instal- lation teams are trained in the most advanced techniques and equipped with the latest technology in use in the fencing industry. Zaun are fencing and gates spe- cialists, and offers perimeter fencing, security fencing, ornamental fencing, electric fencing, spectator rails, sports fences, gates or railings. For information on Zaun and its many products, visit www.zaun.co.uk. Zaun's HiSec 358 mesh uses the "358" welded mesh configuration. The close mesh formation makes it almost im- possible to climb, and difficult to cut without power tools, the manufacturer said. Zaun has developed three fixing methods, ensuring the most appropri- ate solutions are available to meet spe- cific installation requirements.
