Drain coolant into a clean bucket, for rell later (unless its the incorrect type for diesels, indicated by the green color). 1 2 Apply Teon thread tape to hose ttings and secure them to the Filter Holder. 3 4 Attach bracket to passenger side of radiator. 5 After lubricating gasket of coolant lter, spin it on the lter holder. 6 7 8 After cutting out the half-inch section, install T-tting with supplied gear clamps. Mark the heater hose (that runs parallel to the intake runner) with half-inch tape to indicate how much to cut out. Secure holder with lter to bracket. Cut coolant hose running to degas bottle about three inches from the radiator, and install a 3/8thinch T-tting with hose clamps. 10 9 Route end of hose to lter. make changing the lter easier. What else can you do to keep your coolant owing steadily? Anderson says to use the right type, for one thing, as diesel coolant has a conditioner that regular automotive green coolant doesnt. This additive is an anti-corrosive and prevents corrosive cavitation (bubbles that implode, pitting the outside of the cylinder walls and eventually eroding into Connect hose from T-tting on heater hose to the other tting on the lter holder. the combustion chamber). In addition, replace the lter, along with draining and ushing the coolant system, at the manufacturers recommended intervals, if not sooner when operating in extreme temperatures. Beukes says radiator caps on the 6.0L are notoriously bad, and a defective cap thats venting a white, milky uid can be mistaken for a blown head gasket. He also recommends installing gauges to monitor the variance between the oil and coolant temps; if its more than 13 degrees, the heat exchanger might not be functioning properly. Lastly, if you spot sediment in your coolant, shorten the service intervals and ush the system more often. Its no guarantee that sludge wont form, but its certainly better than ignoring those troubling symptoms. 11 Heres how the nished install should look. Use zip ties to secure hoses away from hot metal.
