Match color on connector to the color on the die. Refer- ence chart below. NOTE: A crimping nest with more than one color band may be used to crimp connectors matching any of the nest color bands. Installing and Removing Die Installing or Changing Die: Hold tool with die retaining spring facing you and open handles of tool until they are fully extended. Hold the die with the desired crimping nest and color code in the lower right corner. Insert the die under the die retaining spring in the tool head. The die retaining spring will hold the die by pressure on the die locator pin. Removing Die: Open handles of tool until fully extended. Pull die out from under the die retaining spring thus removing it from the tool. Nest Color Code Die Groove Color Equiv. The smallest manual crimp tools resemble pliers and are convenient to carry in a tool box. Often a ratchet device is added to the crimp tool, lessening the handle force required for a successful crimp. These tools generally have a die wheel that accommodates several different gauges of lugs and connectors. Self-Contained Hydraulic Crimp Tools: Hydraulic crimp tools are self contained and manually operated, but the hydraulic mechanism in the handle increas- es the amount of compression force. Hydraulic crimp tools provide reliable, high quality installations and are recommended when portability and power are called for. This type of crimp tool requires dies that are usually purchased separately. Power-Assisted Crimp Tools: Battery actuated and non-self-contained hydraulic crimp tools use battery or electric power to operate. They deliver the greatest amount of compression force and complete consistent high-quality crimps very quickly. While portable, they are the heaviest type of compression tool, so are used when many compressions are needed in one location. They also require separate dies. CAUTION: Use only a UL and/or CSA listed connector. Any other combination may result in a connection which does not meet established standards. Mechanical Crimper The full-cycle Y1MRTC HYTOOL ™ ac- commodates copper lug and splice com- pression HYDENT ™ connectors for #8 - #1 Class B code conductor, #8 - #2 Class 1 flexible strand conductor, #2 solid, #3 stranded and C-taps up to #6 - #6. It fea- tures a rotating color-coded die wheel that matches up with the connector, embossing die indexes for permanent inspectability, full ratchet mechanism that assures a full crimp cycle, emergency release and ergonomic frame with custom-molded handles. 109X795 Y1MRTC $255.42 ea. Die Nest Color Copper Lug/Splice Red #8 AWG Blue #6 AWG Gray #4 AWG White #3 AWG, #2 Solid Brown #2 AWG Green #1 AWG Copper C-Tap Main Branch Brown #6 AWG #6 AWG Full-Cycle Ratcheting Crimper Use the Y122CMR HYTOOL ™ full cycle ratcheting crimp tool to complete a positive crimp of uninsulated terminals and splices. It accommodates copper compres- sion HYDENT ™ connectors for #12 to #2 AWG Class B, Class I flexible, #2 solid and #3 stranded wire. The crimp tool features a rotating die wheel which is stamped with the con- ductor size and holds six color-coded die nests. The die index is automatically embossed on the crimped connector. It has a ratchet mechanism, emergency release mechanism and overmolded comfort grip handles. 109X790 Y122CMR 1-5, $264.62 ea.; 6-up, $251.38 ea. Wire Identification and Measuring Tool The WIREMIKE ™ is a strong and durable stainless steel wire micrometer. It is designed to mea- sure ACSR #6 to 336.4 stranded, plus stranded #18 to 2000 kcmil and solid #20 to 4/0 AWG commercial cables. Use it on rigid conduit and IPS tubing from 1 ⁄4" to 2 1 ⁄2", thin-wall conduit from 3 ⁄8" to 2 1 ⁄2", as well as on tubing with inside, 3 1 ⁄8" max, and outside, 2 15 ⁄16" max, dimen- sions. This wire identification and measuring tool comes with inch and fraction markings and provides easy conversion information. 109X655 WIREMIKE 1-5, $40.08 ea.; 6-up, $38.07 ea. Ratcheting Crimper Compression Systems The Y1MRTC HYTOOL is a full- cycle ratcheting mechanical crimp tool. It features a rotating color-cod- ed die wheel that matches up with the connector, embossing die indexes for permanent inspectability, full ratchet mechanism that assures a full crimp cycle, emergency release and ergonomic frame with custom-molded handles. Use it on copper compression HYDENT ™ connectors for #8 - #1 Class B code conductor, #8 - #2 Class 1 flexible strand conductor, #2 solid, #3 stranded and C-taps up to #6 - #6. Both kits contain the Y1MRTC mechanical crimper in a sturdy metal carrying case. In addition, the Y1MRKIT kit has nine terminals and five splices, and the Y1MRTCKIT has 14 terminals and a YC4L12 thin-wall C-tap for 12-4 AWG. 109X797 Y1MRKIT Ratcheting Crimper Compression System 618.25 ea. 109X799 Y1MRTCKIT Ratcheting Crimper Compression System 675.29 ea.
