2020 U.S. Ryder Cup
Team Captain
eam, spirit, pride, country—and Ryder
Cup "roars" will all be in full force at
this year's Ryder Cup! Emotions and
excitement will run high as golf and
sports fans travel from all over the
world for a chance to cheer for their country,
the world's best professional golfers, and to
show support for Team USA or Team Europe
during the 43rd edition of the Ryder Cup.
The 2020 Ryder Cup will take place on the
Straits Course at the historic Whistling
Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin, and be played
September 22–27, 2020. The course has
previously hosted three PGA Championships
(2004 won by Vijay Singh, 2010 won by
Martin Kaymer and 2015 won by Jason Day).
At the helm of this prestigious event, we
have U.S. Team Captain Steve Stricker and
European Team Captain Pádraig Harrington
who will strategize with and lead their teams
in one of the most lively, electrifying, and
emotional sporting events in all of history.
Spanning some 90 years, this illustrious
event involving the world's greatest
players will surely create some of the most
memorable moments in golf history.
With its inception in 1927 and through the
early years of the Ryder Cup, competitive
matches were held strictly between
the United States and Great Britain. At
that time, an innovative English seed
merchant and golf enthusiast, Samuel
Ryder, commissioned and unveiled a
special solid gold "Ryder Cup" trophy
that would be presented to the winning
team. On top of the trophy sits a figure
believed to be that of Samuel Ryder's
golf instructor, Abe Mitchell, addressing
a tee shot. The U.S. team defeated
Great Britain, 9 ½ to 2 ½, in the inaugural
matches in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The Ryder Cup has since then expanded to
involve the finest players of Europe. Except
for a span (1939–45) during World War II
and following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks
upon America, the Ryder Cup has been
held biennially with the U.S. and Europe
alternating as host.
