16 STiR coffee and tea / Issue 2, 2020 (April / May) Equipment NEWS Bühler Invites Interpack Attendees to Virtual Show Interpack, which was to be held in Düsseldorf, Germany May 7-13, 2020, is an important trade show for the consumer foods industry, taking place every three years. Interpack was postponed in order to mitigate the risk of spreading the coronavirus, but Bühler plans a virtual show for May 11-15, 2020, with digital showrooms, chats, and webinars to present its latest technologies and solutions. "Interpack 2020, like many tradeshows around the world, has been canceled to keep people safe," "This cautionary decision is a positive step for the health and safety of our customers and employees says Germar Wacker, c.e.o. of Bühler's consumer foods business. The current challenges require us to explore new ways of reaching out and preparing for the future, in this case by running events digitally and discover- ing the potential of virtual events." In the coming days, Bühler will invite everyone who planned to travel to Düsseldorf to join the company's virtual booth online, get inspired by new end-product compositions, meet Bühler experts and salespeople in chat rooms, and enter technical presentations online. "There are so many challenges and opportunities in the consumer foods market today that deserve new solutions," says Wacker. "We want to invite all our customers to explore these solutions in a completely new virtual format which also allows for individual discussion." This nuance can only take place to the extent that the respective roasting system allows it. According to Neuhaus Neotec, the greatest restriction in roast profiling is the thermal inertia of the system, which becomes greater the more mass has to be temperature- controlled. Neuhaus Neotec recognized this problem early on and developed a hot-air roasting system called "rotating flexible batch"(RFB), a technology that is more energy efficient and dynamic than typical roasting systems available on the market. The new Neoroast machine brings this technology to smaller specialty roasters and allows a precise roasting curve design over a wide temperature range. Neoroast is available in two sizes – NR 15 with batch size from 5 up to 15 kg and a capacity up to 120 kg/h and NR 30 with batch size from 10-30 kg and a capacity up to 240 kg/h. Roasting cycles are from 5-20 min. In contrast to traditional roasting machines, the beans are roasted solely in an air stream that ensures an optimal temperature transfer from the hot air (as the energy source) into the bean over the entire surface. Due to the special chamber design, the beans rotate in a closed circuit in which the product temperature is measured precisely. Precise temperature control allows the roaster to enter the curve at any time during roasting and quickly change the product temperature. Due to the low storage capacity of the system, it is even possible to maintain or reduce the product temperature during the roasting process. The roaster can decide between manual roasting and full support by PLC control, including step roasting, curve recording, and complete recipe management. The operation is conveniently carried out via a tablet. Compact roaster Neoroast by Neuhaus Neotec. Developed for specialty roasters and smaller batch production (Copyright: Neuhaus Neotec)
