Michigan Chapter says happy birthday to John Randolph, The Fence Man The Michigan Chapter AFA held its first meeting of the year on Jan. 15, during which president Tom Bement recognized past presidents John Randolph and Hoyt Petty. Some 36 chapter members also took the opportunity to wish happy birthday to John, a veteran fence man and long-time chapter member and supporter, who is celebrating his 89th. His birthday cake read, "Happy Birthday John The Fence Man." He is president and owner of Randolph Fence & Supply Co. of Farmington Hills, Mich., which has been in business since 1939. "John is still working and is very active in our chapter," said chapter spokesman Dick Fromm. "He has been a guiding light and our 'fearless leader.'" The chapter meeting business portion covered the MISS DIG System, Michigan's statewide one-call notification system which provides excavators and the general public the ability to inform multiple owners of underground facilities of excavation with a single call. The guest speaker was Eric Urbain, damage prevention and marketing manager, who stressed the importance of having underground utilities identified before beginning any excavation, and the process of utilizing the MISS DIG system.
