Welcome Note Welcome to our Basel Issue! Editor in Chief Sarah Harrelson at Majorelle Garden in Marrakech; Cultured and Phillips joined forces for a cocktail party hosted by Eva Chow in Beverly Hills. Massimiliano Gioni and Cecilia Alemani, this issue's cover subjects, are simply put, some of the brightest minds in the art world. I was lucky enough to meet the incredibly dynamic duo about five years ago in Aspen and have been admiring their respective meteoric trajectories from the sidelines ever since. The pair sat for photographer Douglas Friedman at The New Museum before Gioni left for Venice, where he will be the youngest ever to curate the Venice Biennale, while Alemani was busy preparing for Frieze, where she is the curator of Frieze Projects, in addition to her day job curating High Line Art, the park's public art initiative. In "The Space Between," these curators took a moment out of their frenetic schedule to talk to writer Raul Barreneche. Another tastemaker in this issue is Reed Krakoff, a man of many talents. Though perhaps best known for his career in fashion, Krakoff truly embodies the symbiotic relationships of fashion, design and art. Contributing writer Meghan Dailey sits down with the designer for an exclusive interview on the eve of his latest star turn. And here at Cultured, we have been busy too. We are just back from Los Angeles, where we celebrated our Spring issue with auction house Phillips and Eva Chow (yet another tastemaker). We recently partnered with Christofle for the Art of the Table, a seated lunch we held for 35 remarkable women at Soho Beach House. And during ICFF in New York, we partnered with Matter for its launch party for the Roman and Williams-designed furniture collection for MatterMade. But our most exciting news is the arrival of Culturedmag.com. Because we believe in growing our magazine organically and speaking directly to the needs of our readers, we knew it was the right time to realize our vision for a digital component (building on our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter). Edited by Tali Jaffe, the website promises to keep the Cultured dialogue going in between issues. See you in the fall and, in the meantime, on Culturedmag.com. Sarah G.
