WORLD FENCE NEWS • JUNE 2013 • LockeyUSA puts major focus on pool safety As summer approaches, in many parts of the country swimming pools are already full of children playing in the water. While swimming pools can be the source of endless hours of fun, they also pose dangerous hazards if not properly secured. This summer, LockeyUSA said it aims to leverage their products, expertise and partnerships with national organizations to promote pool safety awareness throughout the United States. In 2013, LockeyUSA joined the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA) and also actively supports the efforts of Pool Safely, a government association promoting pool safety awareness across the United States. LockeyUSA offers a variety of products that can effectively secure gates, including gate locks, hydraulic gate closers, and SAFETECH gate latches and self-closing gate hinges. Through efforts to secure pools with high-quality gate hardware and to enhance pool safety awareness through education, the risk of pool-related accidents and drownings can be significantly reduced, according to LockeyUSA director of marketing Evan Crawford. "While adult supervision is, and always will be, the most important way to prevent accidents in and around pools, effective perimeter security offers the first line of defense," he said. According to the NDPA, drowning is a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 14 and about half of the drownings among children ages 1 to 4 occur in home pools and spas. More than two-thirds of those children who drown in a pool or spa were last seen inside the house, NDPA points out. "Perimeter fencing around pools and spas prevents children from getting to the water when adult supervision is not possible," noted Crawford. "While fencing creates a barrier, it is vulnerable if gates are left open or unlocked. LockeyUSA recommends securing pool gates with gate locks or latches and a gate closer or self-clos- ing gate hinges." For more information on pool safety awareness and gate security hardware, visit LockeyUSA.com, NDPA.org and PoolSafely.gov, or call LockeyUSA at 989-773-2363. Founded in 1989, LockeyUSA is a North American manufacturer of door and gate hardware, including keyless locks and hydraulic gate closers.
