And in the case of Sara Myers, that bold leap turned into a venture she at first didn't see coming: owning The Sewcial Lounge, a hip sewing and fabric shop located on the main drag of Monroe Street. "I left [my job] hoping to figure out what I was going to do. Then I met some people who encouraged me to open my own business and it just ended up that this is what I opened," she says. In fact, she's launched a sewing fanatic's dream: a vibrant space stocked with bold prints galore, along with sewing supplies and a roomy workspace where classes are taught throughout the year. Myers, who fell in love with hobby sewing when she was in college, is passionate about her craft. "I love fabric. I love how pretty it is and I love making things with it and seeing how it transforms," she explains. Not only does she delight in sewing, Myers also believes in sharing her knowledge with others. With project-based classes, The Sewcial Lounge has lived up to its name by bringing together sewers of all ages, from young kids to advanced crafters.
