"We faced all of the pandemic-related problems of the travel industry, from staffing to scheduling and safety procedures, and remained committed to making the Lake Express a first-class program," says Lake Express president Ryan Griebel. "As we pre- pare for the 2021 sailing season, we're already seeing signs of a travel rebound." SAFE AND FAST "Advanced bookings this year are similar to 2019, the 15th and most successful year for the Lake Express," notes Aaron Schultz, vice president and marketing director. "We're continuing health initiatives begun last year to ensure that we will be the safest, as well as fastest way to travel to Michigan and back." Launched in 2004, the Lake Express is the only high-speed ferry operating on the Great Lakes and one of only a handful of services available in the U.S. A true 21st century ship, the Lake Express travels at 34 knots (39 mph) as it takes passengers and vehicles across Lake Michigan from terminals in Milwaukee and Muskegon, Mich. The two and a half hour crossing compares to a driving time from Milwaukee to Muskegon of more than five hours. Saugatuck 2021 DETAILS Travelers this year will see some changes in scheduling, but the ser- vice will be basically the same as it has been from inception: u The spring schedule from May 7-June 16 and the fall schedule from Sept. 7-Oct. 25 are unchanged, with two departures daily from Milwau- kee and Muskegon. u The popular summer season from June 16-Sept. 6 offers three round trips every day except on Sat- urdays and Tuesdays when there will be no late-night round trips. u Special rates continue this year. Children under five always ride free and kids from 5-17 ride free during the busy summer season, when accompanied by an adult. Motorcy- cles ride free in the spring and fall seasons. Fu -sp d ahead
