36 • JULY 2013 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Encon slates 13th annual golf tournament Access control distributor Encon Electronics announced it is hosting its 13th Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 20. The tournament will be held at the Deer Ridge Golf Club in Brentwood, California in San Francisco's East Bay area. Encon marketing manager Vicki Jones noted that this is a "very non-traditional event that focuses more on fun than your handicap. Whether you are an avid golfer or you have never golfed in your life, you will have a fantastic time interacting with installing dealers and manufacturer representatives in our industry." FENCE INDUSTRY WEEK October 27–November 8, 2013 Dallas, Texas October 27 – November 2 This year they are incorporating a "music theme" and contests throughout the day revolve around this theme. Vendors are urged to become sponsors by donating funds or raffle prizes of their choice. Each sponsor will be included on all tournament mail-outs, e-mails and the web site, Jones said. They will be recognized throughout the event via signs on dedicated holes on the course, in the clubhouse and the banquet room. California Chapter AFA sponsors table top show in conjunction with its first quarterly meeting The California Chapter of the American Fence Association held its first quarterly meeting at the Indian Palms Country Club in Indio, California March 22-23. The meeting included a table top trade show, as well as the traditional golf tournament. The chapter board of directors meeting was held on Friday, March 22, and the general meeting was held on Saturday, March 23. Of special importance were the election of the 2013-2104 officers and board of directors. The newly appointed officers are Jason Biddle (president), Michael Lindsey (treasurer), and Lori Terramagra (secretary). Directors are Lea Johnston-Cruz, Gary Hansen, Don Kidder, Doug Mastin, and Jim Sypitkowski. The chapter sponsored its traditional golf tournament on Friday, March 22. The table top trade show was held on Saturday, supported by 22 vendors. On Saturday evening the chapter held a special tribute to Pat and Mary Dowling. Pat retired from Builders Fence Co. after 33 years, and had served the California Chapter in many capacities. He had been a member of the board of directors, had sat on several committees and was a major contributor to the long-standing Special Olympics project, on which he plans to continue working. Speaking at the tribute were Stan Timmins, Ira Schechtel, Barry Marrs, and Jon Farrar, as well as others. Saturday evening was Jon Farrar's last meeting as chapter president.
