WWJ CLOSEUP waterwelljournal.com 8 n February 2022 WWJ LARRY BROSEH President Drill King International LP Mansfield, Texas THE BEST ADVICE I EVER GOT? Lasting advice to me many years ago from a very successful primitive-minded business owner. He said, "Son, treat your vendors and customers the sameā€”just like they are your best friend." To this day, my goal is to form long-time relationships. WHAT ARE YOU HEARING MOST FROM YOUR WATER WELL CUSTOMERS? Water tends to be appreciated more now than it has been the past couple of decades. With the threat of pollutions being introduced into the subsurface, they are very cautious to make sure they are sealing off the lower stream they are retrieving from. BEYOND SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUES, WHAT IS THE GREATEST CHALLENGE FACING DRILL BIT MANUFACTURERS? United States drill bit manufacturers' greatest challenge today is the overseas competition. Those who purchase U.S.-made raw materials are at a huge disadvantage to those who manu- facture abroad. We don't receive subsidies from governmental agencies; therefore, our raw prices are normally double what our competitors pay to an Asian raw material supplier. FAVORITE PART OF WORKING IN THE WATER WELL MARKET? I was able to step into a driller's private life while he was drilling a well and heard many successes and failures of drilling a well that were essential to a farmer or dairy. Knowing that you are helping provide the most important resource in the world gives a great sense of accomplishment. WHAT DID YOU LEARN ABOUT CONDUCTING BUSINESS DURING THE PANDEMIC? We quickly learned to purchase materials further in advance. For instance, some items that prior to COVID-19 might require a 10-week delivery, we soon learned to expect lead times of 10 months or more. As a result, we have larger amounts of stock available than we have had in the past. WHICH DRILLING PRODUCTS ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT IN 2022? I'm most excited about the new casing advanced system that is just now in test phase. Our engineering department has been so involved in improving our WAI water hammers the past years, we're applying our present time to produce a quality casing ad- vancement product. I believe this is what drillers need the most. BAUER Equipment America, Inc. 680 Conroe Park W Dr. Conroe, TX 77303 Phone: 713.691.3000 Service: 580.977.9866 Parts: 713.699.7699 www.gefco.com
