keymilwaukee.com 3 Tantalizing Tidbits from Milwaukee's Arts Scene MIAD Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD)'s current exhibition, "Presence & Persistence: Visions of American Blackness," illustrates the experiences of Black individuals in the United States from a variety of perspectives. "Presence & Persistence" is on display at MIAD's Frederick Layton Gallery, 273 E. Erie St., through March 12. Featuring the work of David Anderson, Sandra Bridges, Chrystal Denise Gillon and Jerry Jordan, the exhibition includes several types of media and artistic techniques including painting, black-and- white renderings and collage work. "The essential humanity and spirit embodied in these artworks celebrate the trials, triumphs and histories of Black people in the United States and speaks out in opposition to the continued marginalization and racism that continues to plague our country in the 21st century," said Brad Anthony Bernard, MIAD associate professor and curator of this exhibition. Gallery hours are 10am-5pm Monday through Saturday, and admission is free. For more information, visit miad.edu/galleries. In the coming months, the college will open MIAD Gallery at The Ave., a retail gallery displaying and selling artwork created by MIAD students, staff, alumni and faculty. "ACTUALLY is a smart, profound exploration of the culture of sexual consent," said Suzan Fete, artistic director and co-founder of Renaissance Theaterworks. "With lyricism and wit, ACTUALLY investigates gender and race politics, our crippling desire to fit in and three sides to every story."
