Nature Based Solutions Institute Director and popular speaker Dr. Cecil C. Konijnendijk will be speaking at the SMA Conference on ""Governing the Urban Forest: Changing Models and Municipal Forester Roles for New Demands." Cecil's talk will focus on strategic decision making in urban forestry/municipal arboriculture, focusing on different models of governance and the different roles of public, private, and civic society actors. "I would like to talk about the emerging trend of hybrid approaches to governance that see partnerships between the public sector and other actors (as in Central Park in NYC)," Cecil says. "I would also discuss ways of ensuring participation of key stake- holders. The talk would provide an international perspective, with focus on 1) new modes of urban forest gov- ernance and 2) the changing role of municipal arborists/ urban foresters." Sneak Peek: SMA Conference Monday's Tour will explore nature-mimicking stormwater facilities in Seattle, some of which are riverine and lead to the City's Carkeek Park, home to spawning coho salmon which came back after improved stormwater management practices like those we will visit. Carkeek Park features beau- tiful views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains. 21 CityTREES SMA Conference in Seattle, Washington SMA 2022: Register Now!
