THE TOP 50 PLAYERS ON THE PGA TOUR
ARE COMING BACK TO CHICAGO
Chicago golf fans have reason to
celebrate this summer as the BMW
Championship—the penultimate
event of the PGA TOUR's FedExCup
Playoffs—returns to iconic Olympia
Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields,
Illinois, on August 15-20, 2023.
Conducted by the Western Golf
Association (WGA) to benefit the
Evans Scholars Foundation, the BMW
Championship determines the field
of 30 for the season-ending TOUR
Championship. The top 50 players in
the FedExCup Playoffs will be vying
for the trophy and a $20 million
purse at Olympia Fields after the
championship was contested on the
East Coast the past two years.
Defending champion Patrick Cantlay,
the first player to win back-to-back BMW
Championships since the FedExCup
began in 2007, is expected to return
alongside other fan favorites. Past BMW
Championship winners include Justin
Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose,
Tiger Woods and Jon Rahm, who
won the 2020 event at Olympia
Fields by making a 66-foot birdie
putt on the first playoff hole.
The 2023 BMW Championship will
mark the seventh time the event has
been contested at Olympia Fields.
Other past champions of the event at
Olympia Fields are Jock Hutchinson
(1920), Walter Hagen (1927),
Macdonald Smith (1933), Jack
Nicklaus (1968), Bruce Campton
(1971), and Jon Rahm (2020).
Olympia Fields has a rich tradition of
being a tremendous test for the world's
top players. Most recently, Olympia
Fields has hosted the 2003 U.S. Open,
won by Jim Furyk; the 2015 U.S.
Amateur, won by Bryson DeChambeau;
and the 2017 Women's PGA
Championship, won by Danielle Kang.
