Guests on The Plant a Trillion Trees Podcast include arborists, urban foresters and traditional foresters, researchers, landscape architects, tree growers and planters, plant breeders, entomologists and pathol- ogists, legislators and planners, non-profit leaders, authors, carbon crediting specialists, and urban wood recyclers. A guiding concept for the co-hosts is the idea of "rhizomorphic networking." Hal says, "We've observed the lovely connections that often occur: an overlap of science, a root grafting of initiatives, a shared energy of problem-solving from having guests from their respective fields tell their stories." Eva says, "Our guests bring so much interesting knowledge to the table, we often feel like we're taking a master class as we do these inter- views." With listeners in more than 90 countries, The Plant a Trillion Trees Podcast earned the 2022 Silver Medal from Garden Communicators International for Podcast Series Overall. J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. Director of Communications Nancy Buley says, "I admire the diversity of guests on the show, whose knowledge and varied perspectives help me see and understand the complexity of growing trees in urban settings." One of the most meaningful interviews for Eva was with Dr. Jun Yang, a Professor in the Department of Earth System Science at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. "We worked together at Temple University, so following his career has been exciting for me," Eva says. Dr. Yang's research deals with urban for- estry, urban ecology, and ecological remote sensing. His research on the way that the Beijing Olympics affected the reshaping of urban greenspaces in that host city provided the focus for the conversation on The Plant a Trillion Trees Podcast, an episode that proved to be one of the Hal's favorites, too. "An episode that sticks with me was with a young professional, ISA Certified Arborist Jake Handley, working in Asheville, North Carolina," Hal says. >> Episode 45: Dr. Jun Yang is a Professor in the Department of Earth System Science at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
