80 tobaccoasia Issue 5, 2023 September / October AI application The appearance quality of cigarette packs is of great concern to consumers, but traditional online monitoring devices use a "duck stuffing" passive process- ing technology, which involves setting standard sample images in advance and conducting local comparative analysis to determine the appearance of packs. In this way, due to a lack of data percep- tion there are often errors and omissions in the detection process, which requires continuous manual adjustment. In order to make the equipment and production more smart, HCF explored image data smart application and devel- oped the first comprehensive AI online detection device for cigarette pack ap- pearance quality defects. Through AI and machine learning, it selectively accumu- lates the appearance of packs during the production process and continuously im- proves detection capabilities. Compared to traditional detection devices, this de- vice effectively solves the problem of nonperception data. Meanwhile, relevant AI image tech- nology is also applied to the measurement of cut tobacco width in the tobacco pri- mary processing production line. A cam- era is installed at the exit of the cut tobac- co machine to digitally measure the width of cut tobacco, identify flower slices and long filaments, and promptly report any abnormalities. This effectively improves the accuracy of cut tobacco width control and solves the problem of low efficiency in cut tobacco width detection. Smart manufacturing drives organizational optimization The advancement of smart manufactur- ing has also brought about the problem of optimizing enterprise organization. In order to fully unleash the effectiveness of centralized control management and accelerate digital transformation, HCF in 2021 established a special research group on organizational optimization to conduct theoretical research and practical demonstration on how to build a flat and efficient production system. In 2023, HCF is actively exploring optimization methods and organizational strategies that align with the characteris- tics of the enterprise based on the smart and centralized control center. This is a bold exploration in HCF's digital trans- formation journey, which will accelerate the pace of enterprise transformation, fully release the management efficiency of the centralized control center, and im- prove the level of the enterprise's man- agement. The application of the integrated con- trol mode of the smart and manufactur- ing control center will promote frontline employees from simple, repetitive, and low-level labor to engage in more inno- vative and smart work, and push forward the transformation of the talent structure of the enterprise from a pyramid type to an olive type structure dominated by in- novation and research. AI plays a large part in smart manufacturing, increasing efficiency and quality. Smart manufacturing enables organizational transformation in various areas.
