Article in Science of The Total Environment
In this recent article on the beneficial influence of proximity to the
natural environment, the authors summarize the evidence for asso-
ciations between exposure to green space and blue space and
improvements in health. In contrast, grey space—the urban land-
scape—largely presents hazards as well as reducing exposure to green
and blue space and isolating us from the natural environment.

Urban Biodiversity and Equity:
Justice-centered conservation in Cities
The role of urban tree canopies in environmental justice
and conserving biodiversity.
The authors state four goals
here: (1) introduce and describe urban forestry, (2) explain
why other disciplines might be interested in urban for-
estry, (3) illustrate how wildlife biologists can use urban
forestry in their studies, and (4) encourage conservation-
ists to think mechanistically about how urban vegetation,
environmental justice, and urban wildlife may interact.
