According to the horticulture team at the Alamo, the live oaks
on the iconic historical site are a mixture of Southern live oak
(Q. virginiana) and Texas live oak (Q. fusiformis). The former
is native to moist to wet soils in East Texas and along the
Gulf Coast, while Texas live oak is native to dry sites from
southwestern Oklahoma through central and southern Texas
