training municipal staff to collect data using both tra- ditional and remote sensing methods. These cities include Mobile, Huntsville, Birmingham, Florence, and Phenix City in Alabama, and Atlanta, Georgia. I also work with ISA Certified Arborists, Master Gardeners, homeowners, and young people. I find teaching the public and raising awareness about urban tree care and maintenance exciting. My team at the Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Auburn University organizes workshops for home- owners on different topics related to maintenance of landscape trees: tree selection, tree planting, mulching, watering, tree pruning, trees and con- struction, etc. We develop educational programs for arborists, and we prepare them for ISA certification. We also organize 4-H and related youth programs, which is always fun because students attending our workshops are interested in nature and motivated to learn more about trees. Some of them will be the new generation of urban forestry professionals. What about teaching and advising? GA: At the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment at Auburn University we offer a minor in Urban Forestry. I teach the Urban Forestry course (FORY 5650) and starting next year I am going to co-teach the Arboriculture course (HORT 3220). I have one graduate student who is pursuing his master's in urban forestry, and he studies urban forest carbon stocks using TLS technology. I am also advising a second master's student who is studying the effect of wood density in tree biomass estimation based on TLS data. Anything else you want to share? GA: City Forests is a new webinar series that I launched that takes place on the last Thursday of each month at 10:00-11:00 a.m. CST. Speakers cover dif- ferent aspects of urban forest ecology, management, and arboriculture. Certified arborists can claim ISA Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attending. We are Eocene.
