MUFL allowed me to follow my passion for urban
trees and cities without having to leave my home
in Perth, Australia. I was able to build on my
existing knowledge working in the not-for-profit
sector and volunteering for urban tree stewardship
and advocacy groups. I particularly enjoyed the
breadth and mixture of courses which expanded
my options for employment considerably. I was
worried about being isolated from the rest of my
classmates and the teaching staff however felt really
supported throughout my time at UBC Forestry.

The online format of MUFL allowed for exposure to
a strong cast of professionals, including the course
professors, advisors, and guest lecturers. This can
exist in a traditional in-person model, but with urban
forestry being a global topic, this allowed access into
the regional complexities of the field, which in turn
offered solutions that were or could be applied in
a local context. Having classmates in various global
regions also added to this learning opportunity.
