It's no secret that Western North Dakota is a prime
hunting destination with diverse habitats for big
game and birds. The Williston area is a particularly rich
region of the Great Plains, with woody forest bottoms,
breathtaking badlands and open prairies stretching out
past the horizon.
Our upland game populations are a great draw, with
Hungarian partridge, sharp-tailed grouse and pheasant
waiting to test your skills. Grouse and partridge seasons
open in early September, and pheasant season opens in
early October.
We're also a major migration stopover point for waterfowl
— in particular, ducks and geese. There's a reason the Prairie
Pothole Region is known as the "Duck Factory of North America,"
and we're right in the thick of it. Our waterfowl season begins with an
early resident opener at the end of September, and the regular season typically
opens in early October.
Our part of the state is home to vast public lands such as the Little Missouri National Grassland and
state lands, offering thousands of acres for hunting adventures. And North Dakota's PLOTS (Private
Land Open To Sportsmen) program opens up even more territory to explore.
All that's missing is you.
