PLACES WE LOVE
MORE TO EXPLORE
Williams County is loaded with parks, trails and outdoor recreation! From a casual and relaxing
day outside to a weekend of roughing it, we have the adventure you want. We're also close to
a beautiful national park, just 60 miles (96 km) south of Williston. Learn more about outdoor
recreation on page 8 and parks on page 36.
The Williston area is known for its rich history at the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone
rivers. Explore Cut Bluff Overlook two miles east of the city to see where the Corps of Discovery
camped. Visit reconstructed 19th-century forts, too! See page 4.
Learn about pioneer life on the prairie at the Buffalo Trails Museum in Epping and the Norseman
Museum in Tioga (both open throughout the summer), and the Frontier Museum in Williston
(open by appointment). For a different kind of early 1900s experience, see the Cartwright Tunnel
and Fairview Lift Bridge over the Yellowstone River just south of Williams County.
Getting here is easy. Williston is 60 miles (96 km) south of the nearest port of entry at the U.S. /
Canada border, with Williston being just 112 miles (180 km) south of Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
Williston is at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2, U.S. Highway 85, and North Dakota's historic
Highway 1804, which follows the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.
