Chicago Conference Recap
In November 2024, UCFS held its annual conference and tradeshow with more
speakers and more attendees than ever before. Over 220 members, friends,
and partners attended the conference and heard from a wide range of speakers
covering topics such as prioritizing tree maintenance using tree equity data,
how to manage volunteers for community tree stewardship, and how to grow
more shade in the desert. A highlight for many was the keynote address—spon-
sored by PlanIT Geo—from Dr. Nadina Galle, who presented thought-provoking
ideas that challenged the audience to view technology not as the cause of
urban loneliness, but as a tool to foster connections with urban forests.
Of course, no conference is complete without plenty of networking oppor-
tunities, and UCFS provided two opportunities for members and friends to
mix and mingle. The annual MFI Alumni Networking Reception—sponsored
by Davey Resource Group—was packed, and the energy and excitement was
high—so high that it was difficult to hear at times! It was all proof that friends
new and old were happy to see each other. The next evening was the annual
networking reception for all members, held in the tradeshow space so that
attendees and vendors could connect over delicious nibbles and a drink or two.
The photos that follow highlight just a few of the amazing events and
connections made at the conference! Many attendees went on to
the Partners in Community Forestry Conference that followed.
