Arts @ Large
Arts @ Large Gallery and its Spring Artist
in Residence, Nohemí Chávez Contreras,
invite the public to Santo y Sombra
(Saint and Shadow), an immersive
art experience that explores Mexican
identity through bold and dramatic
contemporary fashion.
Through striking and seductive
garments, Chávez Contreras examines
themes of rebellion, tradition, darkness
and legacy. Santo y Sombra runs
through June 27.
The exhibition is free and open to
the public 9am-2pm Tuesday through
Saturday. Gallery visitors can join the
artist for a free Masterclass 6-8pm,
May 7 and 22, and learn more about the
intersection between art and fashion.
A fashion show and closing ceremony
celebrating Chávez Contreras' exhibition
works and most recent designs will be
held 6-9pm June 27.

Present Music
Active since 1982, Present Music remains one
of the country's premier ensembles specializing
in commissioning and performing new music.
The ensemble recently performed at Big Ears
Festival in Knoxville, Tenn., and continues its
mission of bringing awareness and appreciation
of new artists to wider audiences.
At 7:30pm May 25 at the Milwaukee Art
Museum, the ensemble presents "Baroque
POP!", a concert featuring the stellar vocal
talents of Milwaukee native Julia Holter and
Behind the Wallpaper, composer Alex Temple's
exquisite suite for voice and string quartet.
The concert will be held in conjunction with
the MAM exhibit The Brilliance of the Spanish
World: El Greco, Velazquez, Zurbaran, which
features more than 50 paintings and runs
through July 27.
This season, Present Music is releasing two
new recordings on the Cantaloupe and New
World Record labels: "26 Little Deaths" by
Carla Kihlstedt and "Voiceless Mass" by Raven
Chacon.
