BRUNO MONTESANO President PRESIDENT'S POST THANK YOU TO OUR PLATINUM SPONSER IDA Universal April - May 2025 6 Chance VS Success I had the opportunity to meet a speaker that was presenting to our own sales team recently. Unlike many speakers who talk to salespeople, he wasn't a motivator, he wasn't trying to teach how to deal with difficult customers or how to re- solve issues, he wasn't there to show them how to sell the products. He was talking about run- ning yourself like you run your business. How to conduct yourself to be successful and how that reflects on people around you. A few things he touched on really stuck with me. e main topic that sticks in my head since that day is the difference between chance – or luck –and success. I had to think about it for a while and in retrospect it also had me change my vocabulary when meeting and talking to people. You didn't succeed in school by being lucky; you didn't build your ca- reer by chance; you didn't build your business by pure luck. You worked your rear-end off tireless- ly until your venture was off the ground and then you probably had to double down on your ef- forts to keep it going and growing. at wasn't you being lucky. at was you taking the proverbial bull by the horns and getting it done. When your child is stressed by an exam at school, don't wish them good luck. Wishing them luck is telling them to close their eyes and mark whatever on the test sheet. You should be wishing them "good success"! ey should have studied and put in the efforts to succeed at that exam. I changed my tune from good luck to good success! And I noticed the effect it as on people around me. When you meet some- one that plays a musical instrument and they hone their skill, they're not lucky that than can play that instrument, their successful at it for all the hours of practice they put into it. An athlete isn't lucky to be able to play that sport that he or she loves at a competitive level, he worked hard at the gym and trained for countless hours to get to that level. e Olympians who won a medal weren't lucky, they were success- ful in result of all the efforts they put in, the ef- forts no one sees. No one sees your efforts to get to the level of success you achieved, but I can assure you, luck had nothing to do with it. Now, do I believe in luck… Sure I do! If you win the lottery, that's luck. If you play roulette at the casino and bet your entire life savings on red and win, you're lucky – you could also be irre- sponsible, but you get the point. Being successful in life as well as in business is achieved by putting in the necessary efforts needed to reach the point of success. And I do consider myself lucky. Lucky to have met all you IDA members. Lucky to have met you, the successful people that you are. Lucky to get to see you at least once a year at our convention. But we all go to conven- tion because we found a way to be successful, not by being lucky. IDA is lucky to have you as members of this very successful group. We are special breed of people. e Davids going aer the Goliaths of the heavy industry sectors. And we're successful at getting it done, not lucky! Now go on and keep putting in the efforts needed to have your busi- ness reach the SUCCESS it deserves. And when we meet again, I'd love to hear you tell me about all your SUCCESS. See you soon! Be well and keep your eye on the ball! Bruno
