56 tobaccoasia Issue 4, 2025 July / August A partnership strengthened by shared ownership What distinguishes this collaboration is the structural integration of Arden within the Marbach ecosystem. "Marbach owns shares in Arden and our two companies have been close partners for decades," Stegmann noted. "That strategic investment and partnership enable a much tighter alignment on everything—from tooling formats to delivery timelines." It also ensures global coor- dination of production activities, especially when clients have decentralized operations. Marbach's presence in Asia is vital, particularly in the tobacco sector. While the European and North American markets are mature, regions like Southeast Asia remain dynamic. "Demand [in Asia] is stable, not booming, but consistent," said Stegmann. "Having regional facilities allows us to react quickly to local needs, whether it's delivering tools to a printing facility in Vietnam or providing on-site training in the Philippines." While Arden combines specialized metals with precision milling techniques for its emboss- ing and debossing tools, Marbach ensures that Arden's tools arrive ready to integrate with its own die cutting tools for delivery to customers, wherever they may be located. "Without us, Ar- den would have difficulty reaching these markets," Stegmann added. "But together, we can offer global reach with local service." Outpacing the counterfeit threat The sophistication of counterfeit operations has evolved rapidly over the last decade. From rep- licating packaging to imitating regulatory seals, bad actors are constantly finding new loopholes. As a result, brand owners must invest in security features that go beyond surface-level deterrents. Design-led, embedded, and hard to replicate Hidden image embossing, lenticular features, and multi-layered engraving solutions stand out be- cause they are embedded into the packaging substrate itself. They aren't removable stickers or scannable tags. Instead, they are part of the physical structure and therefore far more difficult to replicate without access to proprietary designs and specialized tooling. The power of synergy The strategic alliance between Nautilus, Arden Dies, and Marbach illustrates what's possible when design, engineering, and distribution unite. Each firm brings specific strengths—conceptual in- novation, mechanical precision, and global integration—that, when combined, deliver unmatched security value. More than just an anti-counterfeit strategy, this partnership represents a scalable, sustainable model for future packaging security. And as counterfeiters up their game, so must the legitimate industry. But with such an agile, integrated network behind the next generation of tobacco packaging, the odds are tilting back in favor of authenticity. C-DIT tax stamps from India on liquor bottles.
