18 keymilwaukee.com Brewers in MLB playoffs with home-field advantage The Milwaukee Brewers, a team with a roster full of unknowns, are in the October Major League Baseball playoffs with the best regular-season record and a home-field advantage. The team that was written off as a contender at the start of the season vaulted to the top of the major league standings in August and September. The Brewers were the first team to clinch a postseason berth, the first to win 80 games and the first to win 90. The Brewers' regular season featured outstanding pitching by new and experienced hurlers and hitting by veteran players and many who are in the big leagues for the first time. One morning in September, an ESPN roundup celebrated Christian Yelich's first 100-RBI season since his MVP year in 2018, timely hitting from all parts of the roster and a catch by a Brewers' outfielder that saved two runs and clinched another win. Pat Murphy, in his second year as manager of the Brewers, has maintained a low-key approach, even as his team set Brewers records for winning streaks during the second half of the regular season. The veteran MLB coach calls the soft-spoken Yelich the necessary leader required of successful teams. . At KeyMilwaukee's press time, the Brewers remain- ing September games indicated that the team would win the National League Central Division and avoid an early playoff series. Instead, the Brewers should begin play in the Division Series on Oct. 4. The Brewers would have home field advantage in the best three of five series, with games 1, 2 and 5 in Milwaukee. Tickets for postseason games went on sale Sept. 23. Visit brewers.com for up-to-date information and tickets to playoff games. Trades help Bucks A year ago there were predictions that the Milwaukee Brewers would have a very poor season. Look how that turned out. As the National Basketball Association begins, there are the same negative predictions for the Bucks, but there are reasons the "experts" again could be surprised. Myles Turner, center for the Indiana Pacers who made it to the 2024 NBA Championship, is now a Buck and enthusiastic about playing alongside two-time MVP and perennial All- Star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Also added to the team in the off season were established shooting guards Cole Anthony, Gary Harris and Amir Coffey. And at least one observer predicts another trade that would add additional guards. How the newcomers will blend with the strong returning Bucks roster will be determined in four exhibition games, including two in Milwaukee's Fiserv Forum, and early in the season which starts at home Oct. 22 against the Washington Wizards. For tickets to Bucks home games visit Bucks.com. Even when the team is on the road, visitors enjoy the Bucks Pro Shop in the popular Deer District.
