Outlook: Between Hope and Realism
Mexico today stands at the intersection of its past and its poten-
tial. Production is recovering, domestic consumption is growing,
and international recognition is rising. But unless transparency,
organization, marketing assistance, and technical support reach
its 545,000 producers, the resurgence could remain just a breeze.
As Espíndola and several analysts suggest, the real question
is whether Mexico can turn its geographical advantage into an
institutional one — transforming logistics and processing capac-
ity into lasting value for rural communities. If it can, the coun-
try could become not only a bridge between South and North
America but also a benchmark for inclusive coffee development.
It is an inflection point that recalls the paradoxes of Charles
C. Mann's stories: a landscape rich in biodiversity and culture,
bound by invisible systems of trade. In that sense, Mexico's cof-
fee is not just a beverage — it is a mirror of the country itself:
resilient, decentralized, and still searching for its own voice in
the global cup.
