Trends and Tidbits 'Smart' Construction Equipment Brings Both Brawn, Brains to Job Sites Smart construction equipment combines power and technology to boost jobsite efficiency and safety. Innovations include intuitive machines with adjustable settings, smart emissions controls on generators, and AI-powered safety systems like obstacle detection and automated lighting, all designed to ease operation and protect workers on modern construction sites. Construction equipment is no lon- ger just about providing the brawn crews need to get work done. To- day's equipment also has the brains to help crews work more efficiently and safely, taking some of the pres- sure off of stressed-out and often- times inexperienced workers. "The amount of equipment that's designed to be more intuitive and easier to operate, and sometimes even capable of thinking and acting on its own, continues to grow at a rapid pace," said Dana Wuesthoff, show director of ConExpo-Con/ AGG. And it's not just core construc- tion machinery like excavators and wheel loaders that are being equipped with the latest smart sensors and other digital tech. Specialized equipment like pavers, support equipment like generators and safety systems like cameras and lighting are all being designed with smart features that help make crews' lives easier.
