80 tobaccoasia Issue 6, 2026 November / December CXM: One Stop for Labeling and Packaging Technology Shanghai Chengxiang Machinery — or CXM for short — sup- plies packaging and labeling equipment for several industries, including nicotine pouch manufacturing. Its relevant technolo- gies include top, bottom, and side labeling machines, alongside equipment for applying tax stamps to cylindrical containers. Sven Keisi, head of the Chinese firm's North America division, explained that CXM's labeling systems accommodate differ- ent label positions on nicotine pouch cans. The company also supplies tax stamp applicators, allowing manufacturers to inte- grate stamp application into their packaging operations where required by the relevant market. Accurate placement matters both for presentation and compliance. Brand labels and legally required markings must be applied consistently while accom- modating the shape and dimensions of the container. Customized production lines CXM can supply individual machines or configure complete lines around customer requirements. Its wider portfolio in- cludes pouch packaging and conveying equipment, enabling manufacturers to discuss several connected production stages with the same supplier. One of CXM's products, the CX-KHY automatic snus packaging machine, is designed for snus, snuff, and nicotine pouches. CXM lists a maximum speed of up to 800 pouches per minute, with pouch widths of 12–18 millime- ters and lengths of 20–50 millimeters. Actual output depends on the material, configuration, and operating conditions. CXM also offers tax stamp labeling equipment designed for cylindrical containers, with reference-point detection intended to support accurate stamp positioning. Manufacturers should assess these capabilities against their specific container formats, production targets, and local regulatory requirements. International customer support Keisi identified after-sales service as an important part of CXM's offer. The company provides a one-year warranty on equipment sold and can supply spare parts or arrange technical assistance when necessary. CXM maintains offices in Shanghai, Vancou- ver, and Berlin. Keisi said the company aims to respond to customer inquiries within 24 hours, addressing a common chal- lenge for businesses purchasing machinery from overseas sup- pliers: obtaining timely assistance across different time zones. "We're always here to help anybody and serve our customers to the best of our ability," Keisi assured. Sales manager Lucas Peng explained to Tobacco Asia that customers can use its machinery to move from a pre- pared filling formulation to individual pouches, cans, labeling, and shrink-wrapped finished products. "The actual pouch pack- aging [refers to] the individual pouch," Peng said, distinguish- ing the production of individual portions from their subsequent packaging into consumer-ready containers. This distinction is important because pouch formation, filling, and sealing require different operations from can loading and secondary packag- ing. By coordinating these stages, manufacturers can reduce the complexity of integrating equipment from multiple suppliers. Packmate's range includes entry-level equipment intended for smaller production operations and more advanced automatic systems. The company lists an entry-level nicotine pouch pack- aging machine with a capacity of approximately 40 pouches per minute, making it a potential option for businesses undertaking initial production or market testing. Matching equipment to production needs Packmate also offers multi-lane systems designed for higher- volume production. Its four-lane automatic nicotine pouch packaging system is intended for moist granule products with a stated supported moisture range of 10–45%. The equipment integrates dosing, pouch forming, filling, heat sealing, cutting, and discharge. Selecting the right machine requires more than comparing headline production speeds. Formulation character- istics, pouch dimensions, packaging materials, and the desired output all influence equipment suitability. Manufacturers should therefore confirm the proposed configuration through techni- cal discussions and product trials. Packmate can also assist with sourcing cans. Peng explained that customers may obtain con- tainers independently or through the company's supplier net- work. Following can filling, the line can accommodate labeling and shrink-wrapping, with multipack configurations available for different customer requirements. Installation and after-sales service Packmate's support extends beyond equipment delivery. Peng said the company has an after-sales team of approximately 20 people who can visit customer sites to assist with installation, testing, training, and maintenance. The company initially seeks to resolve problems through online support and video calls. If remote troubleshooting proves insufficient, it can send tech- nicians to the customer's facility. Packmate also maintains its own parts department and manufactures machine components, with typical spare-parts lead times of approximately 3-10 days, Sven Keisi explains the operational flow of a CXM labeling and tax-stamping machine.
