STUDIO Adam Silverman Los Angeles, CA 90036 BY BRENT LEWIS There is an undercurrent of artistic turbulence IMAGES COURTESY OF BRENT LEWIS throughout the potter Adam Silverman's workspace. Part laboratory and part artist's loft, it is light and open, yielding a confluence of unaccountably perplexing yet beautiful and elegant objects. These, the former-architect employs independently, or in groups within his compelling environments and installations. The structures of Silverman's works are natural and modern and give ground for surfaces on the edge of a breakdown; they are rough and dissonant and powerfully attractive. Seeing one leads only to the desire to see one more. Adam Silverman's new book, published by Skira Rizzoli; Silverman in his L.A. studio; tools of the trade Works in progress being prepared for exhibitions in San Francisco, New York, Marfa and Tokyo. 74 CULTURED The beginnings of a brick structure for "Clay and Space," a solo exhibition at the Laguna Art Museum; works for an upcoming exhibition in San Francisco
