Tempest in a Teapot
T
his month we turn our focus away from coffee (for the most part) and concentrate on a
growing segment in the marketplace: tea. Just a few weeks ago Starbucks opened its first
Teavana store in New York City, which certainly won't be the last. Coffee shops around the
country are devoting more time, resources and menu space to tea options, which continue to
grow exponentially.

For an overview of tea's recent growth, don't miss the Specialty Coffee Retailer annual tea
update (see The Time is Now, page 19). Throughout the issue, we've also covered tea blends and
teaware (see Blend In, page 26) and profiled tea shops across the country (see Regional Update, page 30). If it's tea-related,
we've got it covered.
Next month is our annual sustainability issue, which will feature information about the latest environmentally-friendly
trends, products and processes. If you haven't entered your business in the Greenest Coffee Shop Awards, be sure to check
out www.specialty-coffee.com for details or email me for more information.
