Step back a century at festive Pabst Mansion THE CAPTAIN Frederick Pabst Mansion, 2000 W. Wisconsin Ave., presents "A Grand Avenue Christmas" through Jan. 5. More than a dozen of the mansion's rooms have been elegantly transformed in keeping with the mansion's Victorian heritage. A Twilight Tour (no relation to vampires) is available from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 20. Elaborately decorated rooms, Victorian holiday history and warm refreshments are part of the evening. Tickets are Adults/$15 and Children/$6. Visitors may choose the $15 Holiday Season Pass to the Pabst Mansion, Charles Allis Art Museum, 1801 Prospect Ave., and Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum, 2220 N. Terrace Ave. The pass may be used through Jan. 5. The Charles Allis and Villa Terrace Decorative Arts museums are open 1-5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. (Tickets available at all three locations.) Member Swap Day on Dec. 8 represents a great opportunity for members of the Milwaukee Art Museum, Betty Brinn Children's Museum, Discovery World, Grohmann Museum, HarleyDavidson Museum, Milwaukee Public Museum or Pabst Mansion. Members receive reciprocal free general admission at all seven sites with a membership card and photo ID. 38 The Pabst Mansion's holiday hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. Holiday admission is Adults/$10, Seniors, College Students/$9 and Children 6-17/$6. Children under 6 admitted free. The always popular 12' tree featured each year in the grand stair hall is largest tree on display and is festooned in rich gold, copper, and purple. As an added bonus the Pabst Mansion's first and second floor airing porches will be decorated for the first time in traditional Victorian holiday themes. A guest favorite, the ladies parlor is the definition of feminine in soft blue and frosted highlights accenting the delicate original silk wall coverings. The music room is the place for historic reproduction toys hidden in the garlands and vintage gifts of dolls, bears, a buggy, and a rocking horse surrounding the tree to be found by children. The elegance of the mansion's dining room is highlighted in red and gold with 30 beautifully hand carved Santa's on the mantle and table.
