GO+DO good eats Sardine's Feb. 3 threecourse family style dinner celebrates Burgundy's culinary and wine traditions. Book now—seats sell out quickly. In Madison, community truly is formed around food. In fall and winter, Sardine brings that notion to the table Monday nights, when the entire restaurant becomes the setting for monthly family style dinners. generous portions of food and drink—from local brews to wines of the featured region—are served family-style at tables joined together to create a festive atmosphere. It's fun to gather here with friends and family, but come as a smaller party so you can dine with people you don't know—yet. The evening starts with hors d'oeuvres in the bar area. Then, chef-owners John Gadau and Phillip Hurley raise a toast with the 140 people gathered to share the meal, and platters are passed around the long tables as guests serve each other. Diners sometimes linger long after dessert, engaging in lively conversations. Many attendees are regulars who look forward to meeting up with past tablemates at these convivial gatherings. –Laura Kearney For menu details and advance notice on future family-style meals, held October through april, sign up online for the restaurant's newsletter. 617 williamson st., Madison.
