Doosan this week appointed Scott Park president and CEO of Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment, replacing Tony Helsham, who retires in February. In this role, Park will be responsible for the Bobcat compact equipment brand in the North America, Oceania, Europe, Middle East and Africa regions, and in Russia and other members of the Commonwealth of Inde- pendent States; the Doosan heavy equipment brand in the North America, Oceania and Europe regions; and the global businesses related to Doosan Infracore Portable Power, and Montabert and Geith attachments. Company officials believe Park can help maintain the positive momentum. "With more than 25 years of experience and in-depth knowledge related to strategy development, manufacturing, TQM and information technology, I am confident Scott will help us continue our transformation and ensure we deliver the innovative, quality products and services our dealers and customers have come to expect from us," said Doosan Infracore president and CEO Yongsung Kim. Helsham had been in his position since 2010. "It has been a privilege working with Tony, and I am grateful he shared his legacy as an industry leader with us, our dealers and our customers," Kim said. Seshagiri Rao, Joint MD and Group CFO of JSW Steel, said, "On iron ore, analysts have a lot of expectations. There will be huge supply in the market next year. At the same time, demand from China is likely to come down. Based on these two factors, the price of iron ore may not go up next year." Rao said, "Steel demand this fiscal year is flat, as the consuming industries are not growing. That is also reflected in flat consumption of steel. The demand has to revive to see the growth in the steel sector." He said that steel prices in India, which are often linked to international prices, would remain stable, as demand for steel would be better next year with recovery taking place in the U.S. and the European economy bottoming out. "Recovery is happening in the U.S. market, so consumption will go up there," Rao said. "Europe is already at the bottom, so there can be some recovery there. Japan is doing reasonably well, and Korea is okay. So, the only place we need to watch is China, which is expected to slow down next year. These factors would keep steel prices stable next year, when raw material prices are expected to come down. 2014 is expected to be better for the steel industry." ● Business Standard & www.steelguru. com, Nov 2013 Trends continued on page 55 IDA UNIVERSAL January-February 2014 45
