HubBub Coffee

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
HubBub Coffee Company has
been doing things differently than
"regular" coffee shops since their
very beginning Andrew Crockett,
founder and barista at HubBub
Coffee opened in 2009—but not
with a traditional storefront, but
with a full service coffee truck.
"It was a gorgeous candy apple
red Chevy Step Van serving
Philadelphia's University City,"
Crockett says. Rain or shine,
Crockett passed coffee and pastries
through the truck's window to an
ever-growing line of friends and
customers as indie rock floated out
of external speakers.
"As Philadelphia's first outpost
of Portland, Oregon's Stumptown
Coffee, we were able to introduce
our community to super delicious
coffee, and educate them about
Stumptown's responsible sourcing
practices, as well as about the
regions and farms where our coffee
comes from," Crockett says. "And
because this whole enterprise was
on wheels, we spread the love far
and wide at events across the city."
The HubBub truck has been at
everything from Jay Z's "Made
In America" concert to intimate
weddings. Since its inception,
HubBub has expanded to two brick
and mortar locations and continues
to do things their way.
"Our shop in University City
hosts music shows which feature
local and touring bands, which
bring people into the shop during
atypical hours, such as Friday
nights, and help to foster a scene of
friends and artists," Crockett says.
"The back bar of the shop plays host
to private tastings and cuppings,
and there are plans to expand their
event roster in 2014." SCR
