According to the trade association, coee consumption is relatively unchanged, with 63 percent of study recipients saying they drank coee the previous day – down slightly from 64 percent in 2012. Even with a slight drop in past-day coee drinkers, coee is returning to levels not seen since the late 1970s. A slew of arcane factors may be responsible for the rise in coee popularity, but a rise in the era of energy drinks, soda and a slew of other caeinated beverages is a positive one. More good news: rising popularity in lattes and blended frozen coee drinks drove the popularity of specialty coee drinks to new heights in 2013. A total of 47 percent of respondents to the NCA survey said they had indulged in some kind of specialty coee drink during the previous week. at's up from 44 percent in 2012 and far above the 39 percent seen in 2010, when the economy was just gaining traction. Popularity of both lattes and blended frozen coee drinks rose by 2 percent, driving weekly consumption rates to 14 percent and 15 percent, respectively. Cappuccinos and espresso both dropped by 1 percent in past-week consumption rates, but other espresso-based drinks grew to 33 percent of past- week indulgences. As single-cup coee makers grow in popularity, the shi toward quality at-home coee could further draw people from coee shops -- especially among older, auent households.
