Chain link, of course, had to be part of the project, and Sammy Franklin of C&C Fence, McDonough, Ga. directed this portion. Rather than making all new fence, the task was to make very old outfield fencing look good, replacing the fabric and straightening the framework. Davis Distributing donated the material for this job, while Modern Fence Technologies sent a bag of spe- cial chain link fence tools. HTP (High Tensile Polymer) strand and rail fence went up in two places. NAFCA Fence Training School One stretch was meant for con- trolling crowds, so people can see through, but not enter, an area used for ticketed events. Coated High Tensile Wire was sufficient for this job. Back near the clubhouse, five-inch-wide rail fence was used, continuing off last year's in- stallation, to demarcate the edge of city property along a parking area. Dressy and tough, these materials were contributed by Centaur Fencing Systems and installed under the tute- lage of Shane Ward, Statz said. Log Cabin's Pro Driver was used to install the wood posts, also con- tributed by Log Cabin Fence of Amity, Penn. Instructors Bill Iams and his brother, Jim Iams, engineered this part of the farm fence job. Two other Iams family members, Judy and Mary, patrolled the grounds on golf carts, delivering refreshments and taking photos. They performed many other behind-the-scene tasks, as did Harriet Statz. "At the end of the school, the stu- dents went home with certificates, the satisfaction of having completed many different kinds of fencing, a wider view of the industry, and new friends," she stated. The City of Sebring will welcome NAFCA back in 2015 for the 4th Field Training School. See next month's issue of World Fence News for a photo report from the Fence Training School. ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Many construction businesses are looking for strong leaders who can deliver accelerating results as their compa- nies recover from the recession and maintain that momentum through a generational transition in the future. Many young people entering the work force, however, are discour- aged with finding jobs in those sec- tors hit hardest by the recession, including the construction industry. Faced with this dilemma, con- struction subcontractors are using a new video-on-demand, "Preparing for a Changing Work Force," avail- able from the Foundation of the American Subcontractors Associa- tion, to learn how their businesses can compensate for this demo- graphic convergence and develop their future leaders and managers. This and other on-demand videos are available through FASA's Contractors' Knowledge Depot. Visit www.contrac- torsknowledgenetwork.org.
