GEAR GUIDE April 2014 | Overdrive | 73 Myth: The injector is exclusively part of your truck's fuel system. Truth: The injectors are part of the fuel AND the oil system and requires both to function. Myth: Only FUEL additives will improve engine performance. Truth: Because the injector's performance is impacted by both the fuel and oil system, appropriate OIL additives can improve engine performance. Myth: Once the failure code is triggered, your injectors need to be replaced. Truth: Mechanics will claim that is true. A replacement will solve the problem of an injector not performing correctly due to stiction. And a replacement may cost thousands of dollars and require downtime, however, it is unnecessary in nine out of 10 cases. The stiction that causes an injection failure requires an oil additive to clean it up. Hot Shot's Secret Stiction Eliminator is a problem-specifi c, high-concentrate oil additive made of detergents and dispersants designed to remove the stiction and restore the injector to its original factory performance. Myth: Injectors never last for the 1 million miles they are supposed to. Truth: They will if you take care of the stiction build-up. Most injectors fail because of stiction (old caramelized oil that creates a stickiness inside the engine with each passing mile). It's important to treat your oil system with an oil additive that will clean out the stiction. A product such as Hot Shot's Secret Stiction Eliminator, was developed to specif- ically clean the injectors and restore them to their original function. One annual treatment removes 250K miles of stiction build-up. You can prevent future problems by using Stiction Eliminator as part of your maintenance routine. It doesn't make economic sense to consider replacing an injector that is designed to go 1 million miles and can often perform for the life of the engine. When stiction causes the failure, a specifi c, high-concentrate oil additive can remove the build-up and restore it to its original factory performance. At the very least, it's worth a try before spending thousands on replacement costs.
