DATELINE heating oil industry in Germany, after completion of a research and evaluation program, adopted a similar standard shortly thereafter, and a significant amount of equipment is currently using this very low sulfur fuel. The German research organization, IWO, noted at the time of adoption that lubricity may be an issue with the fuel and adopted a lubricity specification for the fuel. We have heard nothing but praise from the German rep- resentatives of IWO regarding that fuel. Further, it is our understanding that the seals discussed in this study are identical to those in widespread use in Germany, and that such seals are approved by UL for use with diesel. The availability of ultralow sulfur heating oil in Europe has enabled the market introduction of very compact, condensing oil-fired boilers. Finally, the National Oilheat Research Alliance, and the National Biodiesel Board are currently operating a project at Pennsylvania State University to assess ultra low sulfur, and biodiesel blends. We are concerned with anything that might hint of a problem in oilheating equipment and believe that any such problems must be chased down. However, we also cannot stop moving forward based on isolated incidents. The benefits of our transition to this cleaner fuel far outweigh any poten- tial risks. NEFI SELECTS NEW PRESIDENT The New England Fuel Institute (Watertown, Mass.) announced it has selected Michael C. Trunzo as its new president and CEO. In addition to serv- ing as president and CEO of NEFI and its Education Foundation, Michael will also serve on the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees. “Michael Trunzo brings an excep- tional skill set and a background uniquely qualified to meet the challenges and opportunities we currently face as a trade association and as an industry,” said NEFI Chairman Howard Peterson of Peterson Oil Service in Worcester, Mass. “We are quite fortunate and we look forward to his leadership as we further advance our stra- tegic plan and strengthen NEFI in service of its members and the industry.” Trunzo comes to NEFI from the State University of New York (SUNY), where he was appointed Senior Associate Vice Chancellor in April 2002 and was promoted to Vice Chancellor for Government Relations in March 2008. SUNY is a 64-campus system of higher education. Trunzo served as SUNY’s chief lobbyist and managed the Office of Government Relations, overseeing the University’s federal, state and local lob- bying, as well as the university’s external affairs and employee-union relation- ships. Trunzo developed and managed the university’s legislative and public policy agendas, advocacy efforts and the implementation of its strategic plan relative to government relations and external affairs. He also ran the New York Network, the state’s television sta- tion and production studio. Trunzo comes to NEFI as no stranger to the retail petroleum industry. Prior to his time at SUNY, from 1995 until 2002 he served as CEO of the Empire State Petroleum Association, which rep- resents motor fuel and home heating oil dealers in the state of New York. Nor is he a stranger to politics. Trunzo served as chief of staff to the New York State lieutenant governor and executive assis- tant to New York State Senator Kemp Hannon. He has also held senior posi- tions with the town of Islip and the New York State Assembly. “I am honored to accept the position of president and CEO of NEFI,” Trunzo said. “NEFI has a great history of serv- ing the needs of home heating oil dealers and petroleum marketers regionally and nationally, and I will work diligently to continue that tradition.” CALENDAR OF EVENTS JUNE 34th North American Heating & Energy Expo June 7 – 8 Boston, MA www.nefiexpo.com Canadian Oil Heat Association Symposium June 21-22 Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario www.symposium.coha.ca National Association of Oil Heating Service Managers and Associates Mini Trade Show Tuesday, June 28 Francis Farms 27 Francis Farm Rd.
