I must admit that I took a proac- tive part in the fight for the repeal by urging everyone who would listen to call, fax or write their political repre- sentatives. I told them they had to act or they would be stuck with this forever. Kudos to them for taking it upon themselves to successfully get in- volved! It just goes to show that it is pos- sible to change the system, one victory at a time! As I reported in the May edition of World Fence News, on Tuesday, April 5, the U.S. Senate passed by a vote of 87–12 legislation to repeal the ex- panded 1099 reporting requirements, as well as the 1099 reporting require- ments for individual taxpayers who re- ceive rental income. I am now happy to report that on April 14, the President put his signa- ture on a bill repealing the tax-compli- ance mandate in last year’s health care law, giving a victory to business groups that led a campaign against the requirement. The tax reporting requirement, dubbed “1099” for the tax form it would have required, drew widespread criticism after Congress passed it last year. Under the provision, businesses would have had to report all transac- tions totaling at least $600 a year for goods and services that they pur- chased. The repeal law returns such infor- mation reporting to its previous state, and prevents the huge additional pa- perwork burden on businesses, which already labor under mountains of doc- uments. So, for now, the onerous 1099 leg- islation is dead. – Jim Lucci, World Fence News contributing editor   Six phases of a construction project 1. Enthusiasm 2.
