62 | ZZZFHGPDJFRP | Construction Equipment Distribution | June 2014 New & Improved Geith G3 Quick Coupler Provides Fully Automatic, Double Locking Attachment System With four independent safety components, the new Geith Generation 3 (G3) hydraulic quick coupler provides operators offers a safer way to change attachments on the jobsite, while decreasing downtime and increasing overall productivity. The double locking, fully automatic quick coupler configuration complies with the impending safety standards set forth by ISO/FDIS 13031:2013(E). The front safety lock retains the attachment in the event of improper link/rear pin connection, while the front safety lock and the mechanical secondary rear safety system — independently — retain the attachment in a working position should a loss of hydraulic power occur. Unlike gravity-type systems, both the front and the rear spring-retained safety locks maintain high functionality in severe and dirty environments. The quick coupler's curved engaging plate, or pin seat, holds the attachment's link/rear pin firmly in place upon losing hydraulic power. A hydraulic cylinder check valve, as well as the Geith-patented "curl to release" control system, provide a safe process for attach- ment engagement and release. A compact design minimizes changes to the tip radius, reducing the loss of bucket breakout force in comparison to previous quick coupler designs. The variable pin center design allows operators the versatility to easily pick up and change between a variety of different carri- ers' attachments from the comfort and security of their cabs. Operators also have the ability to reverse bucket orientation when working in confined spaces, such as against walls or under pipes. Hydraulic and mechanical versions of the Geith G3 quick coupler are covered by a limited one-year warranty. While lighter than an equivalent fabricated coupler, the carbon steel casting design gives it 30 percent more strength and up to 11 percent more flex prior to yielding than a fabricated coupler. The coupler offset has also been reduced to provide up to a 26 percent improvement in breakout force impact, improving the performance and productivity of the coupler system. The distinctive design optimizes the weight distribution of the coupler, bringing the center of gravity closer to the machine for better load stabilization The JRB Nexus is designed to pick up both ISO and 416 attachments. Additional visibility in the center of the coupler results in improved load management and safer operations when using fork attachments. Operator visibility of the hydraulic plunger aids in proper attachment engagement. Both cranes feature Variable Position Counterweight (VPC). The VPC system automatically positions the counterweight to fit the required lift. The counterweight moves along the rotating bed and is automatically positioned based on changes in boom angle to reduce ground preparation, lower ground- bearing pressure and less counter- weight without sacrificing capacity. The counterweight boxes are designed to be common across multiple crane platforms. The MLC300 features 96 meters (315 feet) of boom with optional fixed jib attachment of 30 meters (98 feet). In addition, a 96 meter (315 feet) luff- ing jib can be added to extend its reach to 144 meters (473 feet). The MLC650 has a 104 meter (341 feet) main boom to which a 30 meter (98 feet) fixed jib can be added; a 101 meter (331 feet) luffing jib can be added to reach a maximum 157 meters (515 feet).
