Calco Fence Inc. has rooted its small business in Livermore for over 30 years, and owner Scott Pope said he felt the time was right to showcase the company and its employees in the parade. "This year we went all out and en- tered a float into the impressive open- ing procession," said Pope. "It was only fitting that we create something that includes our two most favorite things – family and fencing and show- cases the many talents of our blue col- lar fence erectors." He noted that over the years Cal- co Fence has designed and installed many styles of backstop for cities, counties and even some famous chari- table organizations. "Our reputation of quality crafts- manship has led us to become a proud family-owned small business and the 'go to' fencing contractor in the Oak- land Bay Area for baseball complex- es," Pope said. "We continue to thrive, maintain- ing that level of excellence to our cus- tomers day-in and day-out. By mak- ing a solid commitment we are able to successfully provide for our employ- ees and their families. "We believe that our future be- longs to our youth, and there would be no Calco Fence if there were no fam- ilies supporting us. We aptly named the float 'Our Field of Dreams' to honor our accomplishments and those who thrive with us," he said. Doing what the company does best, they created a scaled down ver- sion of a baseball field, and installed a hooded backstop complete with side- line fences and foul ball poles onto a trailer so all the kids could play a mock game on a moving field. With a 6-foot tall mini backstop, the sons and daughters of the employees stepped up to the plate and ran the bases while the spectators applauded. "No field would be authentic with- out bleachers and a cheering section, and we had a total of 20 parents/em- ployees rooting for the 21 future fence erectors batting up," he said. "While we sang "Root, Root, Root for the home team" the audience shouted out with glee. No judge could resist the crackerjack smiles of the kids, and we were awarded first place in the Com- mercial Float category. We couldn't have been prouder. "Through the hustle and bustle of day-to-day business it is a great plea- sure to take part in good old fashion fun," said Pope. "Our industry is made up of hard-working individuals who should be celebrated more often. We are hop- ing to make this a yearly tradition and a way to kick off the busy season! Here's to next year being even better!" To learn more about Calco Fence and its services, visit the web site at www.calcofenceinc.com. Calco Fence employees/parents cheer as their kids play a mock game on a scaled down baseball field complete with hooded backstop, sideline fences and foul poles. The enthusiasm and high spirits of the children convinced the judges to award the Calco float first place in the commercial float category. The mini field and bleachers were fabricated by Calco's Victor Miller. (Calco Fence Inc. photos)
