A new bridge spanning the St Mary's River on
Highway 50 just east of Jefferson City, Missouri, may
not look unusual, but it could save Missouri taxpayers
thousands of dollars in bridge construction costs dur-
ing the next few decades. Also, the Santa Ana Freeway
(I-5) South Corridor Improvement Project extends
nearly seven miles from the Los Angeles County/
Orange County line to I-605 to widen the freeway,
bridges and overcrossings adding one High Occupancy
Vehicle (HOV) lane and one general purpose lane.
Despite a truncated work season, the construction team for
Minnesota's Highway 23 Paynesville Bypass completed this
project ahead of schedule by using local materials and proj-
ect scheduling.

Correction: In the July 2014 "Kirk Landers" column, "The Traffic Fatality Mystery of 2012,"
São Paulo was cited as the as the capital of Brazil. This should have read "Brazil's largest city."
The capital of Brazil is Brasília. We apologize for the error.
